Waverton Investment Management has hired ex Coutts director Harry Cotton to join its private client team as business development manager. The firm recently acquired London-based financial planner Timothy James & Partners to broaden its client offering.

Cotton, who spent three years managing professional partner and entrepreneur relationships for Coutts, will report to head of private client business at Waverton, Stephen Browne. He has also spent time at global brokerage intermediary Tullet Prebon.

CEO Nick Tucker said: “Clients are at the centre of everything we do at Waverton, so we are delighted when we can appoint talented people who share this philosophy.”

Ascot Lloyd
In a newly-created role, independent advisor Ascot Lloyd has appointed David Melloy as business development manager. Melloy will be in charge of creating new business at the firm and driving organic growth, it said. He reports to sales and marketing director Ian Balgarnie.

Melloy was previously director of business development at Close Brothers Asset Management, with responsibilities spanning across the firm's businesses. He also has financial planning and portfolio management experience over 25 years at W H Ireland and in the private banking division of Lloyds.
